Hopetoun Falls

Hopetoun Falls

One of the best photographs that I’ve ever taken has always been high on my list as a potential painting subject. I did make a small painting of Hopetoun Falls in Victoria’s Otway Ranges back when I first started painting, but it was more of a ‘generic’ waterfall painting really.

This time around I’m a lot more confident with getting my values and composition right, hence the background is a lot more muted and far more realistic and the star of the show is indeed the waterfall.

This is also the first painting I’ve done on canvas I’ve stretched myself rather than a store-bought pre-stretched frame – for this I actually mounted the canvas on to a sheet of MDF wood.
